Frequently Asked Questions
How can I order a cake?
Most of my cakes and cupcakes are baked for friends and family (and friends of said friends and family). Chances are, if you are thinking of requesting a cake from me, you already know how to get in touch with me. That said, I love getting cake and cupcake requests! I could spend days just browsing Pinterest for new cake ideas. If you would like a quote for a cake or cupcakes, email me at [email protected] or message me on facebook (see link above) with any details you have (approx. number of people, type of celebration, date, etc.) and I will get back to you with some ideas to start you thinking. Or you can email me any pictures of cakes you like, and I can comment on feasibility.
Where are you located?
I live and work in outside of Fonthill, Ontario, Canada, in the heart of the Niagara peninsula, about an hour from Toronto.
Do you bake from scratch?
Everything I bake is made from scratch, with the exception of my fondant. I adore real butter and real sugar, and I love the entire process of making a cake come to life out of honest ingredients. I tend to use conventional ingredients, but if you have an interest in organic, just let me know.
What cake and filling flavors do you offer?
Have a look through my flavors. Given the vast quantity of information and recipes out there on ye olde Internet, if you don't see your particular flavor listed, just let me know. I love researching and testing out new recipes.
Do you have allergen-free recipes?
While most of my recipes are nut-free, my kitchen is NOT allergen-free. If you are concerned about an allergy, I would recommend ordering your cake from an allergen-free bakery.
Do you have dairy-, egg-, gluten-, or anything else-free recipes?
While I don't specialize in these types of cakes, I do offer a gluten-free chocolate cake for those looking to avoid gluten in their diets. However, please note that my kitchen is NOT allergen-free so if you have a gluten allergy then I recommend you seek out an allergen-free bakery.
How much do your cakes and cupcakes cost?
As each cake is custom-designed and prepared especially for your celebration, I don't have a price list to post. I can provide a price quote once I have an idea of the size and intricacy of the cake you are requesting.
Did you go to pastry school?
My formal training in the pastry arts consists of intensive instruction at the universities of Google, Youtube and Pinterest. In all honesty, all you need in order to do the kind of baking and caking I do is to have the right tools and a lot of patience.
So where did you go to school?
I'm an Eagle through and through, Boston College class of 1999. Then I went on to get my MBA from Northeastern University.
What did you do before baking all these cakes?
I worked in market research for 12 years, most recently at Labatt Breweries of Canada (part of AB-InBev, the world's biggest brewer). In 2015, my husband and I abandoned the corporate world in Toronto and bought a golf course in the Niagara region of Ontario, which makes us owner-operators.
You don't spell flavour or colour with a U. You're not Canadian, are you.
While I try to fly under the radar here in Canada, I actually grew up in San Antonio, TX and then upstate NY, followed by stints in Boston, San Francisco and finally Toronto. I moved to Canada in 2004 and now live with my (amazing) husband Andrew and our two (also amazing) daughters in the Niagara peninsula.
